Freedom & High Service

Being an entrepreneur to me means freedom.

This week I was able to go home to San Diego for 10 days for my sister’s wedding. Woop-woop!

For those of you who think I’m originally from Chicago - surprise! I’m from San Diego.

It felt so good to be back home for a fun family event.

Everyone was so happy and excited, we had extended family come in, we planned fun events, dinners and lunches… you get it... I'm sure you've been to a wedding before.

Although I complained (as baby sisters do) that I was working the entire time, I actually really enjoyed working on everyone.

For those of you who don’t know, I’m an Esthetician, so going back home for a wedding means I am the designated person to provide the Dermaplanes, eyelash extensions, brow waxes and tints, hair and make up for all events.

I love giving my family a hard time about doing all the work on everyone and being exhausted, because I am, but it also brings me a lot of joy.

My friend Tonya told me that my gift in life is always having the ability to make people feel good.

I thought, “Hm… you’re kind of right about that…”.

And then it hit me.

I do want to make people feel good all the time, and I allow that to show in the work I do.

When I worked for a recruiting company, I didn’t feel my best because I wasn’t doing things of high service to make others feel good - which I do believe is my calling.

Let me explain.

At this firm, everything was numbers related (insert the largest eye roll here):

  • Call X amount of people per day or you’ll be in trouble

  • Interview X amount of people per day whether we have a job for them or not, or you’ll be in trouble

  • Tell people we have a job for them even if we don’t because we might have one in the future (gross)

  • "Ding" them if they ask about compensation because they should want the job more than the money (bigger gross)

Excuse moi??

I hated giving people false hope.

I hated making calls just to make calls.

I hated painting a false picture to meet lame goals for someone else.

I hated “dinging” someone for asking about compensation when being compensated for work is a HUGE part of seeking employment.

So, when I finally found a career path and calling that suited me, I realized I wanted it to be of highest service to others. I don’t think I necessarily realized it at the time, but doing my work through the guidance of Amanda Frances has helped me come to that realization very easily.

After hearing my friend Tonya tell me my calling in life was to make people feel good, I reflected.

I love making people physically feel good; hence, working in a salon & spa.

I love helping people relax or fix skincare problems during facial treatments.

I love the confidence I see spark in peoples’ eyes when they see themselves with eyelash extensions.

I love creating thicker and thinner eyebrows for people (depending on their requests).

The salon environment as a whole speaks to me because people come to us to feel better in some fashion. Whether it be to physically look or mentally feel better… We love it.

And the Airbnb?

People feel good when they get to treat themselves to a vacation. My parents and I did a ton of research, read books and worked really hard to create a beautiful Airbnb experience for people, and I pride myself in what we’ve accomplished.

Sure, we’ve had some people come in and treat it like they didn’t care, and we’ve had some people complain about things (who doesn’t love a complainer? Ammirite?), but 99.9% of the time, we have people come in that just love the experience we’ve created for them. And that’s what makes me so happy.

I also can’t tell you how grateful I am for the amount of positive feedback I’ve received from you all about this blog. I just wanted to start it because I love writing and I wanted an outlet.

Hearing you guys say you can hear my voice in my writing, you love the homework, you love the stories, you love the way of viewing the world through doing the work of putting things in your universe has made me feel beyond grateful that I followed my gut with starting this!

I love making you all feel good in some fashion with my writing.

And that’s why I’m writing a book.

I’ve teetered on what to write about.

I’ve started and re-started.

I’ve had writer's block.

I’ve had imposter’s syndrome.

I’ve started a different book.

I’ve gone back to my original idea.

The list goes on, but I’m trying, and the reason I’m doing it is because I ultimately want to help people and make them feel good about themselves and their lives.

My husband told me the other day that I’m good at helping people by giving advice, and I think the reason I enjoy giving advice when it’s asked of me is because I love to see people excel in life.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, one of my biggest pet peeves is hearing people want change and them not doing anything about it. (uuuggghhhh!!!)

The power to create the beautiful life we desire is truly within all of us. And I’m sorry to say it for those who don’t quite understand the power of putting things in your universe, but even the “bad” things that have come up in our lives have been put there through the thoughts and feelings we’ve subconsciously called into the universe.

I know. You hate that. You probably don’t believe it either.

I’ll get into all of that in my book.

What I want to say to all of you is that in order to be the best version of yourself, you have to dig deep and understand what it is that makes you happy.

What is your calling?

What is your highest service in this life and on this planet?

For some it may be;

Teachers - whether you physically work in schools, or maybe you’re a trainer - you’re still teaching

Entrepreneurs

Healers

Guiders

Leaders

Followers

You name it. The list goes on.

Once you decide what you feel your calling is in life, you’ll begin to feel more at peace with who you are and the decisions you make in life.

PUT IT IN YOUR UNIVERSE:

  1. Write a list of all the things that bring you joy in life

  2. Decide what the central theme is (teacher, healer, leader, etc)

  3. Write out all the ways you could be of service in that area

  4. Journal around how acting on those higher services will be of service to making the world a better place and you a better version of yourself
